Frequently Asked Questions

  • Occupational Therapy helps people of all ages improve their ability to perform everyday tasks.

For adults, this may include increasing independence at home, accessing the community, using assistive technology, or making modifications to improve safety and function.

  • No, you don’t need a referral to access OT services privately.

However, if you’re seeking support through the NDIS, aged care packages, WorkCover, or insurance schemes, a referral or approval from your funding provider may be required.

  • I work with a range of funding schemes, including:

    • NDIS participants (Self-managed & Plan-managed)

    • Aged care clients (Home Care Packages)

    • Compensable clients (WorkCover, TAC, insurance claims)

    • Private clients (fee-for-service, no referral required)

    • If you’re unsure about your funding eligibility, feel free to reach out for guidance.

  • Home modifications can be minor (grab rails, ramps, step modifications) or major (bathroom renovations, access solutions, structural changes) to make your home safer and more accessible.

As qualified OT’s, we assess your needs and work with builders and funding providers to implement suitable solutions.

  • Assistive technology includes any device or equipment that helps you complete daily activities more easily. This can range from simple aids (walking frames, shower chairs) to complex solutions (custom wheelchairs, powered mobility, electronic controls).

I can assess and prescribe the right equipment for your needs.

  • This depends on the type of support required. I aim to complete assessments, reports, and recommendations as efficiently as possible.

However, approvals from funding bodies (e.g., NDIS, aged care providers) may take additional time. I will guide you through the process and keep things moving as smoothly as possible.

  • An Initial Needs Assessment is a discussion-based session where we:

    • Talk about your daily challenges and goals

    • Identify potential solutions, such as home modifications or assistive equipment

    • Plan the next steps for further assessments or trials (if needed)

  • Simply email info@saltwaterot.com.au to request a referral form and cost estimate.

Once your completed referral form is received, we will contact you to arrange an Initial Needs Assessment.

  • Proper postural support is essential for comfort, function, and long-term health.

Poor posture can lead to pain, pressure injuries, fatigue, and reduced mobility, especially for individuals using wheelchairs or other seating systems.

As OT’s, we assess seating and positioning needs to ensure:

    • Improved comfort and stability for daily activities

    • Reduced risk of pressure sores and joint pain

    • Better breathing and digestion (as poor posture can impact internal organs)

    • Increased energy levels and ability to participate in activities

If you experience discomfort, pain, or difficulty maintaining posture, a seating and postural assessment can help determine the best supports, including custom cushions, backrests, and positioning aids.
